ITINERARY

Day 1: Wednesday 5 September 2018
Lisbon
Welcome to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Transfer from the airport to your centrally located hotel. This evening meet your Tour Director and fellow passengers for a welcome dinner. Three Night Stay: Jupiter Lisboa Hotel, Lisbon.


Day 2: Thursday 6 September 2018
Lisbon Sightseeing(B)
Join your local guide for a tour of this fascinating city, one of the oldest in Europe. Visit the impressive Belem Tower and see the Monument to the Discoverers which celebrates Portugal’s standing as one of the great exploring kingdoms of Europe. Enjoy a tasting of local pastries and a visit to Jeronimos Monastery then the rest of the day is at leisure to explore the old town or visit the famous castle.


Day 3: Friday 7 September 2018
Lisbon (B)
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Lisbon. Perhaps explore the waterfront and old town a little more or do some shopping. Discover More: Excursion to Sintra.


Day 4: Saturday 8 September 2018
Lisbon – Porto (B,D)
Travel north along the Atlantic coast and visit the country’s historic capital of Coimbra en route to Porto. Embark on your Emerald Waterways river cruise ship and be welcomed by your captain and crew as you settle into your stateroom or suite. Tonight enjoy a welcome reception and dinner on board while enjoing the illuminations of Porto which are lit up on both the city and the Nova Bank.


Day 5: Sunday 9 September 2018
Porto – Pinhao (B,L,D)
Today enjoy a full day sailing the windy turns and twists of the Douro Valley. A UNESCO world heritage site this area is sparsely populated by small quaint villages and typical communities working vineyards and small farms. Your Cruise Director will host a lecture on board showcasing the history and wine culture of the region. Perhaps join a painting class of local mosaic tiles which typically depict traditional motives. Later this afternoon arrive in the village of Pinhao which is situated on a river bend surrounded by terraced hillsides producing some of the world’s best Port.


Day 6: Monday 10 September 2018
Pinhao – Vega Teron (B,L,D)
Today visit the village of Lamego including Roman ruins. Return to your ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing to Vega Teron, your gateway into Spain. Enjoy a Portuguese cooking demonstration on board.


Day 7: Tuesday 11 September 2018
Salamanca (B,D)
Founded in Roman times, the city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, the seat of the Spanish language, and still a lively student town. With its grand squares and medieval structures, a walking tour here
is more like stepping back in time. Tapas bars feature on every street and traditional Spanish dancing is practised often. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this lively city.

Pocinho (B,L,D)
This morning arrive in the picturesque village of Pocinho and join your excursion to the Coa Valley Museum. This impressive concrete structure details pre-historic stone carvings made by the early inhabitants of the Douro, which were uncovered during the construction of the nearby dam. Return to your ship for lunch and afternoon sailing towards Regua. You’re Invited: Join your barman for a lesson on how to make cocktails using white port. You’re Invited: This evening your highlight dinner will be hosted at a traditional local wine estate.


Day 9: Thursday 13 September 2018
Regua (B,L,D)
Wake up this morning in the former roman settlement of Regua. Visit the Douro Museum for a look at wine making in the region. Discover More: Mateus Palace, home of Portugal’s famous rose wine.


Day 10: Friday 14 September 2018
Porto (B,L,D)
Located at the mouth of the Douro River, Porto is a fascinating eclectic mix of modern and ancient architecture. Its most famous export is of course fortified wine, and the hillside across from the city centre features numerous wine caves and tasting boutiques in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia. Sample the local fair in one of these specially adapted wine cellars and learn about the long adapted craft of creating port.


Day 11: Saturday 15 September 2018
Porto – Lyon (B,D)
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Lyon. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your luxury river ship where your Captain and crew will be pleased to welcome you. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner onboard.


Day 12: September 2018
Lyon (B,L,D)
Lyon is France’s second largest city, a former Roman capital positioned at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers, which is steeped in history. Your tour starts with a drive to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere, Lyon’s hilltop church, with stunning views over the town. Then see the recently re–discovered Roman amphitheatre and walk through the cobbled streets of the gastronomic old town including the secret laneways. Day 13: Monday 17 September 2018
Chalon-Sur-Saône – Beaune (B,L,D)
Chalon–Sur–Saône is best known as the birthplace of photography and the centre of Burgundy’s wine region. Travel by road to the quaint village of Beaune, where we visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French fifteenth–century architecture. Marvel at the multi–coloured roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Emerald Active: Guided biking tour (active fitness level).


Day 14: Tuesday 18 September 2018
Macon (B,L,D)
Enjoy breakfast on the beautiful Saône River in Macon, another important wine region and gateway to the Beaujolais vineyards. Walk the Heritage Trail from Old Saint Vincent to the General Hospital buildings, half–timbered house and Soufflot Chapel, maybe trying some local wines at the many tasting displays in the town. Day 15: Wednesday 19 September 2018
Tournon (B,L,D)
Join your local guide for a walking tour of Tournon, which is dominated by the 16th century castle and roman ruins, and is nestled in the valley near the steep slopes of le Massif Central, France’s 3rd largest mountain range. Day 16: Thursday 20 September 2018
Avignon (B,L,D)
Avignon has a rich history from Celtic beginnings to being the residence of the Popes and later central to the French Revolution. Although a fortified town, it is the Papal Palace which stands more secure on a hill in the centre of town, its walls are 17–18 feet thick. Your guided walk with a local guide takes you through this historic centre strolling the cobbled laneways and browsing the shops, overlooking the famous ‘Pont de Avignon’. The rest of the day is at leisure. You’re Invited this evening to a special Provencal dinner on board hosted by a local chef. Day 17: Friday 21 September 2018
Avignon – Arles (B,L,D)
Sail into the Camargue wilderness region to the capital of Provence, Arles where you will join your local guide for a walking tour showcasing the highlights of the city in particular the 2000 year old Roman Amphitheatre still in use today. Day 18: Saturday 22 September 2018
Disembarkation – Nice (B)
After breakfast disembark your river cruise
ship and board your coach to Nice, capital of the French Riviera. The city today balances old-world decadence with modern urban energy with vibrant markets and diverse restaurants. This afternoon check into your hotel and enjoy an included dinner. Three Night Stay: Hotel Splendid, Nice or similar.


Day 19: Sunday 23 September 2018
Monaco Sightseeing (B)
Enjoy a morning at leisure to shop in the markets and enjoy the beach. This afternoon and evening, take a tour of Monaco and Monte Carlo, home to extravagant displays of wealth and opulent living.


Day 20: Monday 24 September 2018
Cannes (B)
Today take a day trip to Cannes, home of the annual Cannes Film Festival and playground
of the rich and famous. Later, visit Grasse Perfumery. This evening is at leisure to try some local cuisine.


Day 21: Tuesday 25 September 2018
Nice (B)
After breakfast say goodbye to new found friends and transfer to Nice airport for your onward or homebound flight.

All bookings are subject to Evergreen Tours full terms and conditions. The contract between Scenic Tours Pty Limited (“Evergreen”, “We”, “Us” or “Our”) and You includes: (a) the full Terms and Conditions; and (b) Your Itinerary.
It is important that You carefully read the Contract as You will be bound by it once You have signed the Terms and Conditions or otherwise paid the earlier of Your Booking Deposit or the Tour Price.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The tour advertised in this flyer is organised and/or operated by Evergreen Tours Pty Limited a division of Scenic Tours Pty Ltd. (hereinafter called ‘We’) We reserve the right to alter or change the accommodation, carriers or coaches at any time for any reason. The Company reserves the right to cancel or alter the itinerary and/or tour without notice as may be found necessary for any reason whatsoever including, but not limited to, road, weather or traffic conditions, non-performance of suppliers, industrial action, acts of war, acts of terrorism, operational conditions and requirements. All additional expenses incurred as a result of any delays, cancellations or alterations will be your responsibility. TRANSFERS: Airport transfers in Europe are only available on the first and last day of Your Tour and at times We designate. SECURITY DEPOSIT: A non-refundable and non-transferrable deposit of $1,000 per person is due within 5 days of booking. It is advisable to take out Travel Insurance at this time. If a flight deal is applicable, a second non-refundable deposit of $2,000 per person is due 11 months prior to departure or the date specified on your booking advice.

PAYMENT OF TOUR PRICE: The Total Tour price must be paid no later than 90 days prior to departure. 2018 PREVIEW PRICE: Preview prices are limited and available until 30 April 2017, until sold out or until release of the Full Europe River Cruising 2018 brochure- whichever comes first.

Cancellations within 61 days or less of travel are 100%.You may also be liable to pay cancellation fees to airlines and other third parties.
