Start in Beijing, China’s capital and settle into the local atmosphere before visiting the Great Wall, where the scale of the structure and the surrounding scenery are equally impressive. In Xian, see the remarkable Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, a discovery that has fascinated visitors since the 1970s. Continue to Chengdu to visit the Panda Conservation Centre and experience the city’s teahouse culture. Then cruise the Yangtze through the dramatic Three Gorges before heading south to Guilin and Yangshuo, where limestone peaks rise above the Li River and rural villages line the banks. Finish in Shanghai, where historic gardens and old quarters meet a sleek modern skyline and sweeping Huangpu River views.
